Immunohistochemical Localization of Fibronectin during Experimental Enchondral Bone Formation
|

Abstract

|
The distribution of fibronectin during the in vivo development of matrix-induced enchondral bone was localized by using immunoperoxidase method (Avidin-Biotin conjugate procedure) in rats. Demineralized bone matrix prepared from rat diaphyses of
Sprague
Dawley rats.
Fibronectin was demonstrated in the extracellular matrix during the period of mesenchymal cell proliferation. During chonrogenesis, fibronectin was detectable in the cartilage matrix and the periphery of the hypertrophic chondrocytes. Osteoblasts
and
the bone marrow were also reactive for fibrobectin. Therefore, fibronectin appears to be ubiquitous component of developing bone.
